I spend a lot of my day on GDB trying to catch some bugs. I found a very nice plugin for GDB that is helping me a lot, it is called
pwndbg (/poʊndbæg/) is a GDB plug-in that makes debugging with GDB suck less, with a focus on features needed by low-level software developers, hardware hackers, reverse-engineers and exploit developers.
This is the new face for pwndbg. It shows part of the assembly, the source, the stack and the backtrace. It could be redefined if you do not like.
It also has a lot of helpers. The one I found very useful the the register dumps, called `regs`. It show where each register is pointing to. This is an example:
